Arma2 TS3 3D Mod

Postby Macca59 on 06 Mar 2010, 13:02

Had some guys from AEF show me the Arma2 TS3 3D Mod last night.

Very impressive stuff! Really gives a direction/distance feel to TS.
Would really help (me anyway) with team co-ordination and keeping position..

What do you guys think?...

Give us the guts mate............
Where when and how??
Is that the same addon that gives the users different channels and frequencies in game, like an old ANPRC77 set?
Everyone raved about it Thursday night too.

Basically yes.

You have three channels in-game to choose from.

1. Normal verbal talk ie within earshot.. This is what I really liked. Good definition of distance and direction on TS3.
2. Shortwave radio - something like a patrol radio for different groups. FOUR different radio frequencies can be set up (and saved) covering all teams. They were saying that even vehicles will have their own frequencies set up in the future...
3. Wasn't shown too much of that but I'm guessing more like a base radio kinda situation. For arty or overall command and such..

LOL Azza........with the amount of Zone allowance you have just received.......GET A NEW HEADSET NOW!!!

I concur, the system adds a massive lifelike dimension to the whole game.
3 keys are needed to be set aside for comms though.
I have bound my usual TX to the wisper:normal:yell mode so as when pressed, it scrolls through to the choice, then left alone. no need to press again! just talk.use these numbers but I have bound to the kes to the LHS of my normal keys on my G11 keyboard.

1 key is to 'speak' to each other. (mine is LCtrl )
If your next to a guy.........talk normally.
If your 50-100m away from a bloke......hit 1 button and scroll to yelling mode!
If your right next to a guy, prone, in an ambush and need to strike up a conversation.......hit the same key to scroll to wisper mode! Enemy cant hear you even if they are next to you(so they tell me but im not going to try it!)

Key 2 (mine is key pad #2)is for distances for up to about 150m to 5km. This simulates a small hand held UHF radio and up to 6 feq can be set on a very easy to use interface.
Key2 his 'pressed' then released, speak, then pressed again to end TX.
If anyone is on that Freq, will be heard.

Key 3 (mine is key pad #3)is for distances from 5km up to any distance on the map (havent tested that tho)
Again, up to 6 feq can be set on a very easy to use interface.

couple of points though from what was noticed last night;
1/ when scrolling from game to map and back etc, the TX 'send notification at the top right corner of the screen doesnt show therefore not letting you know if your 'hot micing'or not therefore other traffic cannot continue. bit of a concern but not tested thoroughly tho.
2/ The normal scroll menu has increased threefold! keys need to be bound and played with for a while but managable.
3/ Command & control will be tested but again, with this band of merry men, all is manageable.
Frequencies can be pre set in Orders and carried out when ingame as it is very easy to set Frequencies........LOTS OF ÉM!

The upside is that it sounds really cool!
frees up comms and is very realistic in that you can place a ANPRC77 set in any vehicle/aircraft and its there to stay for anyone to use.
in the 'speak' mode, the peaple walking around talking are easily picked up and direction of sound origin is easy. With a bit of practice and use, even distances are picked off!

installation isnt that bad...........even for a numptie plumber!

I suggest D/Ling the file and installing it and testing it on Monday night as it is very good. Definitely a new dimension but time will tell. EVERYONE is using it though.
Im sure Macca will help the boys install it in a group session as he has it squared away.
Hope this helps.
